Like the topic states, Has anyone attempted this before??
I cant see any physical reason it wont work. Just the controlling of the VCT valve I’m unsure of. I know it controls the VCT with Oil pressure, but does the solenoid just actuate at a specified RPM, or is it “variableâ€￾.

Also does anyone have any info on setting the cam timing on these things. It looks to be a little more complicated then the standard EB/EL timing. (There is this weird triangle that must have to line up with something)

dunno about the vct head

but an au head will fit on no worries and the cam timing is the same as any e series car

I could ask why but i guess because you can is a good enough reason.

the head will fir no problems. the cam you time in as per the cam marks dot on the head and sprocket as normal.

look up the AU manual.

To make it all work you need to connect to the oil pressure switch i think and then you need an rpm sensor switch like jaycar do and set it to advance the cam at 1200rpm till 3800rpm. They run retarded at ilde and above 3800rpm stock.

Would have been easier and make more power to get a ported head and a regrind cam but its all good fun

I don’t have a manual at all. (I'm looking, but don’t want to buy one just for the head) Is there a trick to set the Variable bit. Once you undo those 4 tork screws you can move the Variable bit about 1 tooth forward or back, there must be a way to set it. Also do you know anything about the triangle on the cam gear? My guess is it has something to do with the timing...
