Hey guys, great forum

im currently in the market for my first car and have got my sights on either a el fairmont or au fairmont

in my opinion, the el looks alot better, but are the mechanical advantages of the AU enough reason to win my cash?

i have also been thinking about an nl fairlane, but i gather these are pretty slow?

thanks for the help

If you can get over the "unique" look of the AU's, then a AU mont is a fine choice. ( i may be biased tho.) Go an AU Ghia if you can find one. leather VCT and 3.45 limo.

The EL Fairmont - no contest.
It looks better, is possibly just a tad lighter and people won't think your a space cadet unlike if you owned and drove an AU.

skip the AU and go straight to a BA or buy an EL and mod it....AU does nothing better than an EL

LOL i agree with the space cadet thing..

the au im looking at is slightly lowered on 18inch wheels so that makes things a bit better..

but the nl fairlane ghia looks so much nicer and is only worth $800 more

does anyone know how different a fairlane nl ghia and an au's performance are?

sorry for the annoying questions lol

well yeah they cost more but thats hardly an advantage...condition is often just as if not more important as the k's on the cluster...

EL's arnt worth anything so how can they really drop any further....also the AU is the most hated of all falcons by far, this will not help when it comes time to sell.....so why pay more for a car which in the end is no better dynamically and quite ugly in a lot of ways (although styling is a subjective matter, who can actually say they like AU interiors)

AU fairmont interiors are fine. I am not a big fan of the Base model falcon dash. I am 6'2" and find the AU much roomier than my old EL.

Each to there own i say. Its his first car after all, probably better to wreck a cheap EL than prang a nice AU fairmont!! Plenty of cheap spares around for the EL.

yeah i considered BA's, but here in SA its more like 7000-1000, and my cash limit is 5000, or 6500 if i wait another 2 months (when i get my licence)

mind u an AU XR8 would be very nice (with a dart blocked stroker of 400+ c.i.) gotta love the old school V8...better than that BOSS crap.....haha could be slightly out of your budget but :(

Id go with what ever you like best, EL or AU2 or AU3. I wouldn't touch a AU1, they are pretty crappy imo. You can make both models look nice, If a nice AU popped up for the right price i would snap it up. The body is more rigged and you have lots more options with wheels and im pretty sure they handle better than EL's. If you can fetch a EL XR6 for the right price i would grab that, over the AU.
