Hi guys,

Has anyone got pictures or links to AU XR6 exhaust setups. I have searched the net and cannot find.

The reason I ask is that my car was in a rear end smash a few years ago and allot of underbody work was done. I had my car up on the jacks the other day thought the set up of the exhaust looked dodgy.

I will try and explain the best I can:

From the extractors and cat, the setup separates into two pipes, joining two mufflers side by side. From the two mufflers back, the pipes come together with a H bracket weld. One pipe continues out to the tip and the other pipe curves around under rear bar and is blocked!

Is this normal? Seems funny to me to have the second pipe curve around and be blocked. This may be normal, and I am not an expert on exhaust systems, but can someone verify the norm for me.

Sounds very odd indeed Shugg. Without ever lookining under an AU XR6, I would believe that it would be single all the way. Sounds like the previous owner may have went for a custom twin tip set-up then before selling it they hastly converted it back to single in the hope the new buyer would believe they were buying an un-molested example of an AU XR6.

The problem is, I bought it new. I am concerned that the repair shop done a bodge job on the exhaust in the repair process. I am trying to find out if they did so I cat take it back to them and have it done properly, under the life time guarantee that I got.

I just got a stage 3PS kit from IT's performance and I am looking into a new exhaust set up. But the exhaust I have can't be doing the kit any favours.

Hmm. Something dodgy is definetely up dude. An zorst they had laying around was fitted??? If you get no replies from any fellow AU XR6 owners then take it to ford and see if a mech. there can have a quick look. Hit 'em (panelbeaters) up for a mandrel bent cat back zorst though due to the pain and suffering you endured, dept. of fair trade threats, etc, etc! LOL! The engine would be begging for it.

your exhaust is normal dude
that pipe that is blocked of acts like a resonator, much like the intake resonator on V8 falcons.

when i used to work in an exhaust shop we had people ask the thing all the time.

I will try and get a pic today. I may get a chance to put her up on the hoist to do some under body work. I scraped reversing out of a drivway and tore the front left wheel arch lining out and now the front bar is shaking loose also. Little drama's.

i've been under a few 8's and never heard of this being done

i thought normally if it was twin it was twin and if it were a single out the back it would be joined further towards the front.

go see a zorst shop and they should be able to tell ya

Don't panic for a VCT XR6 this sound like a normal stock exhasut system to me.

Yes they do look odd but it shouldn't look dodgy just overly complex for no obvious reason.
