My son complained his car was overheating- hitting the red amrk, alarm beeping and losing power. Water level OK (I just flushed it all out, new coolant and new overflow bottle only 4 months ago) and otherwise running fine. Went to the easiest solution and bought a new thermostat and gasket and fitted in his car park at work. Started it, let it run for 20 mins to get all the air out and no problem. A couple of days later, he complains that it started overheating again. He drives it harder than I do becasue he just fitted a new exhaust and wants to hear it! Test drive again with me tonight for 20 mins and again, all OK. Oulled up at a servo, got him tokeep revs at 2000 and after 5 mins, guage went up and beeps started. No thermo fans working, not even when AC switched on but I am sure they kicked in when I tested after I changed the thermostat. I checked and swapped over relays in the engine bay and no difference.

Any help out there on how to test for what's going on with the thermo fans????
Thanks

Thermo fans have a relay that can be faulty check for that it is in the engine bay also disconnect the wiring connector near the thremostat housing the fans should come on then if they dont change the relay

Thanks Gassa. I'll give it a try tonight. I did swap some of the relays around that had the same part number on them (I think there are 3 or 4) but it didn't make any difference and the fans wouldn't come on even when I turned on the AC and the engine was already hot.
Cheers :D

Check the fusebox in the dash, fuse 7, top row, 7th fuse from steering wheel, 10A. If that is gone/blown, no thermo's, and If fitted, ABS.

My son tells me the ABS fuse is missing, but the ABS warning light on the cluster comes on when he switched the ignition on. I'll have a closer look tonight. Thanks
