Don't have one but the only AU I'd have would be a Series III, I'd buy it if it looked in good condition and was in stock form and well priced.

A BA XT is alot better equipped than a standard AU Falcon and has alot more power and torque to boot (more than the AU XR6 your looking at).

I'd bet my money on an AU XR6 down the quarter.... BA looks mcuh better on paper tho.

Nugget - BEM is body electrics module... controls stuff like interior lighting, immobiser, stuff like that.

Ford will tell you what recalls there were...

If you wanna force induct her, look at a turbo - Dansedgli (dont let the name fool you, lol) has a beautiful example of a turbo AU. The car will take a reasonable amount of power. If its manual you'd wanna stop at around 200rwkw... auto good for a bit more. Keep injectors/fuel pump up to the task with an aftermarket ECU and you'll be able to chase s**t of power with a turbo/supercharger. Same comments can be made for a BA XT... but prolly cost you more.

1/4mile time is anyone's guess... with 200rwkw id guess mid 13s?

True that. And the BA is almost 200kg heavier than the AU and would use more fuel. Hmmm depends if ya want features or performance. :)

i am considering a au xr6 with nice kays making the looks nice then within a few years time supercharge it..... red cliffe dyno said 10,000 - 15,000 with everyhting drive in drive out

but in a year time or so xr6t would be cheaper lol :O

personally i'd go the ba xt. performance wise there would be nothing in it. the ba's are only around 120kg heavier and going by motor/wheels. au xr6 did 7.8 and 15.3 for 100 and 1/4 and the ba xt did 7.5 and 15.2. ba much better car to drive and will last longer and has better technology. to change front to xr6 your up for lights and a bumper mainly. resale a lot better also.

I had almost the same situation a few months ago.

I ended up buying an au xr8.

Had an XT for a few days but found it fukin thirsty on fuel.
Im sure if you drove it nice and slow it would be better but just seemed a bit restrained. It is only a base model after all.

The BA had the 17's and sports suspension and I can safetly say it was the best handling car I've ever driven.
They're also a much better car inside. With a differnent front bar and some good suspension and 17" factory mags they can look gorgeous.

Compared to my au with aftermarket suspension, the XT s**t all over it on the twisties. No understeer or rear uneasyness anywhere.

In the end all you can do it drive as many diff cars as you can and you'll know when you find the right one.

I'm pretty biased as I own an AU1 XR6.

However if I were you I'd go a series 2/3 AU. Just for the better brakes. As far as go fast bits there's a s**t courtesy of JMM,Its Performance and now ALTED (?).

The BA is nice, but heavier, prob thirstier too. The cam kits for the BA cost a bomb versus the AU which is already established. Then you have the quality issues people have with the BA. The AU by now should have had most things sorted out.

If you're worried about the aesthetics of the car there's a stack of places to fix that too. AWC, C2R, SSV etc (if ur not in NSW there's bound to be someone close by).

From where I stand there's no major reason to go a BA over an AU (especially an XR...the fortes I don't rate) when the AU has everything performance wise nutted out.
