i have problems with my auto in the eb and just had a road test and they said its a S5 solinoid so to replace that and full auto sevice was $520 does this sound allright im not that cluey with autos and there prices.

a full flush and service seems to cost around $200.00 to $300.00, so that price seems fair when you add the solenoid in.

Yeah friggin autos cost you $$$ i've spent somewhere around $500 getting a leak fixed as well as a service so far, and it still friggin leaks, although they have started replacing things for free cause it still does it :)

I picked up a second hand (risky) one for $250.00, new front seal and extension housing seal, fitted it in and she runs like a dream - best buy ever! I change the filter and top up the oi annually.

well that seems like a good price then i dont want a second hand one to risky could be just as bad and im to lazy to fit it .they did say not to leave it to long because the computer will pick up on the fault and lock it in 3rd gear .they said the sollinoid is costly .

just make sure they do a full flush for that price and not just a service, flush take 15+ litres service only 4.

Just throw an EA 3 speed in - bolt in replacement. Cheap as chips too - $150. Thats all I did on the EB. You just need to weld a small mod to the throttle lever to actuate the kickdown cable.

I will have an excellent condition EL auto up for sale soon. Has done 140,000km.

And it will be alot less that repairing and flushing your auto. Considering one of the bands will probably break if you are near the 250,000km mark as well.

How difficult would the 4 speed autos be to repair for the DIY'er compared to the 3 speeds? Since they're all controlled by solenoids, wouldn't there be a lot less valve body components to stuff up etc?

well my box is up to 306,000km and i asked about the later boxes and they said they are all basicly the same in this area the same solinoid has the same fault in them all thats why there costly because ford know about this problem .and i dont want a three speed had a ea before didnt like it .

The soleonoids that drive these boxes are pretty much the same.

But the boxes copped a fairly major revision for the EF/EL models to make them stronger internally. Then further again in the AU.

for curiosity sakes is the AU standard 6 boxes an easy swap to the EF/EL series or did they change the housing/mounts
