Uhh that pretty much sums it up.
With the laws of p's in victoria so strict its hard to know what you can and cant do.
I'm going to be buying a car (most likely BA XR6) and was just wondering what you can actually do to a car on your reds.
Can exhausts even be done?

Cheers,
Liam.

Cam, quiet exhaust, CAI. Things can be done (not legally I don't think - I'm from QLD) just don't be an idiot and keep your car low key, if you roll around on Ultra-lows and big chrome 20's, with your subs going off and your mates hanging out the window your probably going to get pulled over and searched.

Cheers
Josh

haha, cheers.
I'd like to get at least an exhaust and give the car a real beefy tone (hopefully legally) and a set of rims.
Im also thinking of going liquid injection gas, but are they allowed on p plate because they supposedly increase performance.

if you put extractors on put the heatshield back on as it will conceal the extractors a bit and the heat shield may need to be modified a bit

cheers, bear

Well as far as I read on the vicroads website, no modifications that increase the engines power. So extractors are a no no then. Maybe just a sports exhaust you might be able to slip through the cracks, but that'll just make it louder, not necessarily more powerful.

Yeah, thats what i'll be aiming at. Just a louder more beefy noise. But the restrictions on the vicroads website don't really tell you very well what you can or can't do in terms of mods, just simply that you cant get more power.

a mate of mine got done the other day for having extractors and a pod filter lol apparently the copper wasn't to fussed about the extractors tho haha he recon'd that the pod filter was more of a performance modification  i couldn't believe it when he told me, i was nearly in tears on the floor.

cheers,
Tomo

in nsw extractors on p's no it's classed a performance modification but the heat shield hides them away a bit

haha, well i am thinkin ill just want to make it sound nice, and generally a good sounding car does attract attention.
So with that, what legal measures can be taken (in VIC on P-plates) to make a car sound a bit more beefy.

Your better off calling Vicroads tomorrow and saying you want to put a non-perfomance enhancing sports exhaust on your car and ask them whats what. My car used to have an exhaust cut off the diff and a mini-spool (very loud, and you try turning with a minispool without drawing attention) the police aren't everywhere you go, you just need to learn to change your driving style around highly policed areas.

Please note I am not encouraging young drivers to hoon, but it's going to happen

Hahaha, well seeing you are putting it that way. I don't want to hoon, I merely want a car that will sound nice.

Just get extractors and a heatshield, get a exhaust with 1 muffler and a hotdog on the back. My headers (extractors) are matte black so doesn't stand out too much in the engine bay. Got done for speeding, 110 in a 110 zone but red ps are restricted to 90 :/. The undercover didn't ask to look under my hood, but my car would sound silent pulled over on the side of the highway.
