hi guys, my housemates ba xr6 stalled in the floods yesterday, and wont start still, we replaced the battery and still nothing, the water was knee high, so decent depth, as his air filter is soaked, so besides getting it towed to a mechanic, any suggestions?

Welcome to Hydro lock.

Insured? if it was hydro locked, your gonna need a new engine. Rods don't like bending.

Does it sound like its trying to crank? or there is just nothing?

remove all the spark plugs and crank it over, as if there is water it will pump it out..
if left to long with water in the cylinders the bores will rust and its all over..( thats if it hasntalready damaged something from Hydro locking)

hydro= water
basically the engine cannot compress water when it is in the cylinders which locks the engine..
the bad thing is if the engine was at descent rpm when it sucked the water in, the crank was spining but the piston stops and sometimes the piston rods will bend which = dead engine...
you will know if it has bent rods if after the plugs are removed and it either still dont turn of it will knock pretty bad....

I hope its a good outcome for you, but water into a motor is not a good thing. water injection is fine on a small scale, just not as air replacement.

remove all the plugs and turn it over. as it might still have water in one of the other cylinders

you've answered your own question really. there WILL be water in the motor.

if the motor ever runs again better give it and oil and filter change.
