Hi all,

I do approximately 700km of highway driving a week in my BA XT. It costs me a fair bit to run and like all of us I wouldn't mind saving a dollar if I can. What I want to know is, is it recommended to use E10 in a BA XT? It does not say either way in the car manual. Is it likely to get better consumption than on 91? Trying to avoid paying for 95-95 premium if I can.

Thanks

it would use more fuel on e10 than it would using premium. so yes your paying less at the pump but you will consume it a little faster..
so imo probably better of using premium..

maybe do a test, fill it up on e10 and work out how much it cost and how many kms you got to the tank, then compare that to how much it cost to fill on premium and how many kms you get from that...

If your car is made to run on 95/98 octane, there is no reason why it would run better or more efficiently on a lower octane fuel. If anything, a higher octane fuel (to a point) should provide a noticable power and economy increase.

I noticed in my 2006 BF Fairmont 95ron premium (non ethanol) seems to go the furthest and 98 doesn't yield much gain. It's E10 compatible from the factory yet yields worse economy from using it. Using regular 91 fuels seem to be average.
Using 95 gets me just under 700km's a tank(680-695). 70litre tank ?

My '02 AUII however seems to get best economy using 98 (though it is an XR) yet I seem to drive it harder so it negates the difference :P so it sees 95 premo also and yields around 650kms but from an 85 litre tank and it's a lighter vehicle :o

nb: all driving 60/40 highway/city.
