Hello All,
I have a 2003 BA XT Falcon
A couple months ago i went to Willowbank and pulled a 15.6 down the 1/4 mile.
Since then i have a modified CAI, Extractors, High flow thermostat, 100 CELL Cat and an Xcal2 with a 98 Tune (CURRENTLY GENERIC TUNE)
The car feels faster on the road however on Saturday I went to Willowbank again - Best time I pulled was a 15.76
I was spinning Twins when doing a burnout which it didnt do before. However other than that im having worse times :(

Any Ideas as to why?
I know its the generic Tune, however you would hope to get a better time am i right?
With the Tune off i got like 16.2

Car just had a service and as far as i know is mechanically sweet!

Other question is, im Guessing im going to have to go get a Dyno Tune.
Is there much advantage in me getting an XR6 Diff and swapping before i go and get a dyno?
Would i see a good increase in time down the 1/4 Mile? or should i just keep my XT Diff?
I was thinking about going to Chiptourque to get my tune? Anyone use them before? They ok?

Thanks for any help and answers!
Cheers
Jakob

You need to look at the entire slip to see why it is going slower. What 60', 330', 660', 660'mph. 1000' and 1320' breakdowns are on the slips?

yea get the diff done before tune so they can correct your speedo.

and as 67RCE has said look at the whole 1/4 mile to see where your dropping the time. could just be the loose nut behind the wheel

Definitely get the diff done mate! LSD with a lower ratio gear set will have you off the line like a cat sprayed with a hose. A tune will also bring all your mods in together, and give a more smoother power curve, allowing power to gradually build at a better pace. Plus the fact that a lower diff ratio will need to have speedo corrected like Benno said, as the car will think it's doing 90 when really it's only doing 60 etc. Good luck, and hope to see some good times out of the falx :)

a diff gear reduction and lsd will help, if you have a few other mods in mind do them first before the tune so its all spot on and your not wasting money retuning it down the track

Hey guys sorry Ive been Flat out with work due to people going on holiday -_-
I do suppose i want to get more mods done.
Ive been looking at getting a 3.73 Diff, I can buy the gears for $550 and get it installed and a rebuild for $570 Locally. Sound good?

Ive got no idea when it comes to Cam's, can anyone shed some light on this?
I was actually planning on buying a Low Km's Motor next week, a place locally sells bare motors with less than 120k kms for $220 :)
So i might buy the cams and try and do it myself Ive got heaps of tools and a big garage :D and am always keen to learn :)

What is a high Stall??

Sorry still new to all this performance car stuff, Trying to learn :)

Also learnt that my Xcal2 can change Diff Ratio on the fly, so i wont need to get a tune straight away. So i might start there within the next couple weeks :)

Thanks guys!

Camshafts wise, you have Crow Cams, Camtech, Atomic, Wade Cams. All do regrinds, and also freshly made billet profiles (these are like $1000 for the pair). If you go with big cams, you will need new valve springs to cope with the increased lift etc.

$1100 for gears, rebuild and installed isn't too bad mate. I was quoted $1800 for mine, that included 4.11 Diff gears, rebuild of the LSD, and labor costs.

A high stall allows you to sit on a higher RPM to launch for the auto gearbox. The standard boxes only allow 2000rpm max. If you get bigger cams, you will need a higher stall so you can launch within the cams peak rev range. I also suggest getting a PWR trans cooler, if you haven't done so already.

And it's a bonus that your XCAL2 can change the diff ratio on the fly, will save $$ on a retune. But if you get cams or high stall you will need to tune them in.
