Hey guys we just have a question about my missus BF XR6 N/A ute, The engine sounds like a Prius and we would want to know why?

We have had a 2.5inch catback fitted last week but still has the Prius sound from the front.

What is the cause for it and can it be removed? hahaha

cheers :)

If you are referring to a whining type sound that is more audible with the windows wound up, I believe it is the power steering pump.

My DOHC in my EB Wag does the same thing. Weird is the only description really.

Cheers

Yep, don't have to be turning.

I THINK that is what it is, but could be wrong.

Cheers

we need to replace the belt as that is now squeeling or just tighten it.

There is only 1 belt which should be self tensioning.
Could also be a worn bearing in one of the idler pulleys or the belt tensioner itself.
Does the power steering pump have fluid in it ? common for leaking out of the O ring underneath amd the make noise when they run dry.

I can hear the power steering pump on my BA over the exhaust which is pretty damn loud, but I know the sound you're talking about, i think its just the sound the engine makes (that's the only way i can describe it lol)
