Hey guys, im thinking long and hard about going into debt with a new(er) car, have been considering a bf xr6 but I dont wanna be stuck with a non turbo one in 12 months time when I can legally drive a Turbo. So ive been looking into the price of a standard ba bf turbo kit and I thought why would it need an engineers report when its technically a standard kit designed for these cars? People do v8 into 6 cyl cars all the time and as long as its the correct engine for that model car its fine. know its easier to wait 12 monthsand buy the T model but im sick to death of spending money on this s**t el and its almost had enough

Since a ba/ bf xr6 is available as a xr6 t I can't see why you would need to get it engineered, I'd say a phone call to rta changing details would be good enough..

It would be a blueslip for change of records at most.
Providing all the gear is fitted that is fitted from the factory its an owner certifiable mod and its no issues.

Yeah this is what the father inlaw said, I guess a we quick phone call to the rta or an engineer cert place cant hurt. I also need to weigh up the cost of the factory turbo gear and the cost of a factory turbo car

it wont need engineering, but imo better to just wait untill you can drive a turbo..
it will still cost more in the long run to turbo the n/a xr6 over buying a factory turbo xr6..

Yep, hang in there. By the time you're ready to get the Turbo you'll find the prices have dropped even more - you can get something newer or higher spec.

Oh and I practice what I preach - my daily drive is an EF 6cyl while the AU is getting sorted :)

By the time you get the Lane sorted out an FG will be a $1500 hack that is used to run to the shops!

Bry just buy a half respectible AU to see you through 12 months.
You will pick up a half decent Fairmont for under $5k and they just keep going.
Then when the time comes buy the turbo then.

Wait it out, or sell the EL and get a cheap AU/BA (can easily get one for 4-5k). That should be enough to get you by until you hit opens and start chasing boost. I could understand if you already had a B Series, and you were attached (first car or something etc etc) and you just couldn't let it go. But because you're going to a newer car, best to wait it out and get something nice. Also gives you 12 months of saving too, which will net an even nicer ride! Just think, FG XR6T's are getting as low as $22k at the moment. Give it 12 months, and you might be lucky enough to find one for less than $20k.

OR you could buy a BA XR6 with a few K's on it for cheap, clean it up and drop a XR6T motor in it in 12 months. BA XR6T motors are cheap. In 12 months will probably be even cheaper!

I'm going to hazard a guess and say he's still on his P's, hence why he's contemplating the 12 month wait.
