4000rpm still seems to high for some kind of a limp home mode... what was the dash heat guage indicating?? more than half way??

As ford freak said XR6T engines slowly shut themselves down if they are getting too hot. and as they cool they start restoring power.

The gear indicator flash 'D' if so that's the trans in limp mode (different to the engines limp mode).

Mind you I've only ever had a problem at the drag strip after a big burnout.
