When I run my car on petrol it's got black smoke commingout the exhaust, it's chewing through the petrol aswell - so I'm guessing it's running really really rich. It doesn't matter if you've jsut started the car or been from a long drive, it's constantly smoking.
Any ideas on how to fix it?
I've just put a new Oxygen Sensor in aswell to try to fix it.
Someone told me my automatic choke might be jamed.

Sounds like limitied operation strategy mate.

Is it a bit down on power? Is it REALLY dutching?

Check if your MAP sensor is plugged in and the vacuum hose to it connected properly.

Arn't MAP sensors only on V8's? if not, can you tell me where I find it?

V8s have a MAF - Mass Air Flow meter.
I6 motors use a MAP - Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor.
The MAP is bolted to the firewall, passenger side. It is a small-ish black retangular box and will have a vacuum connection and electrical connection.

cheers for clearing that up. is there a way to test the electrical side of it?

the mechanic who does my L.P.G. told me a couple of months ago that he reckons my ECU's buggered as the car likes to jiggle a bit at idle, it goes up and down a bit by a couple of hundred r.p.m., maybe it's jsut got worse, and a replacement ECU will help.

I'll check the MAP tomorrow though.

Is that the MAP? And were the red arrow is, is that were there should be a vacum line connected to?
Couse there ain't no vacum line there. Any idea were the other end of the vacum line goes to, just to help me find it, or put a new one on if I can't!

that must be it i presume, couse i found a black tube on the intakemanifold that wasn't connected to anything, and was perfect size and fit for the box.

cars still smoking though, maybe the box is buggered?

What's ment by dutching?
Like i said before, I highly doubt it's down on power, but how do I check jsut incase?
I'm running out of ideas here.

Yep, that's the MAP sensor. Pull the tube you found back off it and check if it is sucking air when the motor is idling. If it isn't my guess is it isn't connected to the manifold properly, or it is kinked somewhere. Check those two possibilities.
If it is sucking strongly I'm not sure where to look from here, maybe borrow a MAP to try in your car and see if yours is faulty. Also might be worth getting any codes out of the ECU.

I get codes off the ECU how? Don't I need that special tool that plugs in?

I'll go check the sucking now, do you know if EB's use thhe same MAP sensor? Couse I can pull the one off Mom's to try.

The tube is firmly fitting on the manifold and sensore, ahs no kinks and a strong suck. It still may be possible that the MAP sensor has shat itself.

I've just read up on the EEC-V Self Testing at http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=52, so I'll give that a crack!

All 4L MAP sensors are the same.

early EB V8's had a MAF sensor and a BAP sensor (same as the map sensor, but vented to the atmosphere to sense atmospheric pressure for the compensation tables)

i put mom's one on, and the car runs fine, just to be sure i pulled the vacum tube off while running and it went black again, so my MAP sensor is definately buggered.

Gunan ring around for prices now. :(
