is your alternator rooted?

might have an open circuit somewhere when you shut off the ignition still. Sometimes water in headlights or some other places keep a circuit going in the car when the ignition is off - so there is still power draw on the battery

alfy, i HAD the same problem with the EA many moons ago, got so bad that eventually it wouldn't even start. The auto-electrician came over and fixed it, said that the wires coming out from the battery were worn and corroded and there wasn't a strong enough connection. (and here I was ready to change a perfectly working starter motor). If you've got a multimeter so some continuenity tests on those 20yr old wires. 8-)

yeah man get busy with the multimeter.

20 years in a car will oxidise the hell outta most, if not all electrical components, either clean them or replace them

My first car was a VK berlina with 98000 original km's. had a 202 EFI multipoint motor with factory headers and 2.25in sports exhaust.

Paid $2000 for it with 6months rego and rwc. Drove it 80000km and all i spent on it was a new battery and oil changes.

Very reliable car in my opinion..

I found that installing a seperate starter relay the car would start alot better, especially after some hard driving.

cheers..
