Got a Tickford head installed yesterday, she goes hard now....... but I still have this problem. On occasion the car has a miss and sometimes there is like a blow off valve sound that comes from the inlet side. I thought it might have been the old head being rooted or maybe the inlet manifold gasket, but now she has as different head and a new manifold gasket I am stumped. Seems to only do it occasionally and you can only hear it with the bonnet up. Any idea's whats causing this miss and noise? The noise is not as loud as a blow off valve but just a push of air. Cars a 94 Ef Fairmont i6 with now a tickford head, au injectors, big mouth and extractors

Could the ISC make this kind of sound? It only does the above symptoms on idle

how loud is it? as mentioned, could be the ISC doing its job.

not too loud, just a sharp light puff and the rev's drop then pick up, so now reading about this thing maybe its normal? Sorry I am still getting my head around EFI setup's and all the sensors.

To diagnose it, unplug the ISC and the sound will go away. also, turn your AC off before disconnecting it. it will not do anything bad, just a touch less load so it should not stall out.

I did disconnect it a while ago to set the base idle speed, but when I disconnected the electrical plug from the ISC the car quickly stalled. Does this mean the ISC is f**k? Also if I clean it like mentioned in the tech doc's is there a gasket I will need to replace?
Thanks dc for your time also, I love the power and response of EFI but f**k carbys were so much easier to diagnose |

Thanks dc for your time also, I love the power and response of EFI but f**k carbys were so much easier to diagnose stalling when isc is unplugged is pretty normal, it also means your isc is working although, the puff sound when the revs drop could just be a rush of air rushing through the isc when it opens to stop the revs from dropping to far.. the isc could be a little dirty or momentarily sticking, hense the sudden puff when its opening???? |

Ill pull down the ISC and give it a clean and take it from there. Ill ask the blokes at the local auto shop about a gasket for it and if they say it has one maybe they can give me the thickness of the gasket and Ill make my own as I am sure an ISC gasket would not be standard shelf stock. Cheers guys

ive made my own isc gasket before from phone book cover or serial box.
pretty easy and worked fine.. |

Since I've cam and chipped my eb with el ecu it does this too.
When i pull up to idle the revs drop then the the isc stops the stall sucks in a gut load of air and revs up to 1000rpm then settles down. I think it's something to do with the fuel at idle not set up 100% and the computer tryin the right itself. Maybe it's a Ef/ el ecu problem actually. I've driven a couple standard els that do it. |
