Hey Guys,
Poor Student P plater with a AU Fairmont, bog standard.
Me mate has an EL falcon, an already has a headstart w extractors + exhaust, but theres bugger all between em. :?

Now i know sod all 'bout mods so i was kinda hoping someone would have some ideas about anything i could do on the cheap (ie. <$500 if possible) that could give me a bit of extra grunt...

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

for under 500 you could get a nice cam installed and maybe find a set of 2nd hand extractors

2.5 inch exhaust, around $280 installed.
Spend the rest on a wade cam, if you do the cam yourself you'll have enough cash left for a K&N air filter.

these might help;
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Extractors-suit- ... 414a1f82cf

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-EA-to-AU-FA ... 5ad4a07a25

Or just go to ur local zorst shop an have a chat to them. Cam would be a good option too.

Drill a 90mm hole straight through the bottom of your air box and through the metal underneath (watch out for the ABS lines directly underneath) then fit a piece of 90mm storm water pipe between the two surfaces to draw air from the area in front of the wheel arch and behind the bumper, made a huge improvement along with the EL GT snorkel on my EF.

I personly wouldn't waste the money on a K&N filter for it. by the time the filter becomes a problem the airbox will a be a bigger problem. a paper filter is enough to see the car well into the 14s

I actually do have a job. I realize that the term 'student' may be lost on someone who dropped out of school aged 12, but let me put it this way. On top of my double degree i have bout 20 hours a week spare to work if im lucky. That money pretty much goes into rent an food, so my car kinda takes a back seat, money wise. I rekon i can handle that for the next 5 years until i am earning four times your cleaners wage.

Person + education = more money.

Have a good one.

slash391. The mod I suggested will cost you a couple of hours if you have the tools and about $40 for the GT snorkel, probably the cheapest mod I have done that gained the most impovement.

Ok right.
Your having a shot at me because I told you need money to actually do modifications that will give you a noticeable improvement?
I'm not sure if you being poor hits a nerve or whatever, but don't come on here with your holier-than-thou attitude.
No wait, I forgot, your 17; therefore king s**t. My bad!
If you must know, I completed year 12 (shock to you, right) and am also still studying, and currently unemployed.
Have a good one.

How come you can do a double degree but can't manage the search function?

Cheap mods are asked about at least once a week on here despite the threads that have been stickied at the top of this section.

get a set of 3.45s or 3.89s gears put in the bum of your falcon and it will smack the F**k out of any i6 with just a catback. Catbacks are next to useless on factory headers. all it will do is be noticably louder.
