I recently came into possesion of a vandal damaged bss custom escort 81, just wondering if anybody can shed some light onto what exactly is the difference between a bss cumstom and a regular mk II escort. whilst pulling it apart i reasile it has extra stabilizers and suspension mods, but im not sure about changes to the engine, gearbox and diff? anybody who know anything about these cars? anything?

Hey Tickford_NA,

Can you give any more information about this BSS thing?

There's one thing that comes to mind though ....
Did it have a small rectangular badge somewhere on the bodywork that says "BSS Customised" or similar wording?
If so .... it is only a badge that was put onto used cars being sold at the time by BS Stilwell Ford dealers.

I had bought a TD Cortina from Stilwell's back in 1979 and it also had this badge on the bootlid, It was only a marketing gimmick at the time .... there were no mods done to the vehicles.

Any changes that you have found on the Escort would have been done by previous owners.

Unless the BSS you are talking about is something different

Cheers,

Alan

You are correct it was a marketing adv thing for the Bib stillwell Ford dealerships in the late 70's early 80's. My cousin brought a XB fairmont in 75 & it only came with mudflaps, towbar & a few Ford Acc with the badge on the back as the BBS. The other mods most likley would be fitted outside the dealerships that tickford_na has on his car.
