I have stripped out a 1994 ED gli with T5 to mock around Winton on Fundays and Sprints
The old 330kkm is still going strong but I'm starting to think about its retirement.
The easy short cut to engine upgrade would be a non-VCT AU engine but after reading about DOHC conversions, a cheap BA/BF could be a much better option.

From the many build threads, I think I got my head around the basics:
- K frame mod (same as AU conversion)
- ED engine mounts re-drilled/oblonged to lower the engine
- Bonnet brace cut out to clear the head
- AU bell housing to use all the bolts to the later engine
- mods on the pedal mount to use the BA/BF electronic accelerator
- custom power steering lines

I'm not sure about all the sparky bits though.
The car has no ABS, no core heater/AC, thermo fans are operated with a manual switch
I want to keep the old dash board and controls ( lights, indicators, brakes)
Can the BA/BF ECU run the engine only?
I understand it will need to be reprogrammed: remove the Anti-theft, no ABS, etc
But what exactly needs to be looked at during the capa flash?

Can a BA/BF AUTO ECU be used instead of manual if reprogrammed?

What about the wiring loom? Which bits can be left out?

Speedo is coming from the gearbox so no issue there.
What about oil pressure, water temp, tacho signal to the old dash?

Thanks in advance for your constructive comments!

You can do no worse than reading Benj's postings about his fitting a BA motor to an ED. He tracked every change he made to the ED, and now it is running well, with all the changes made. I also suggested in a cruise forum, that we should raise funds to bring him to our Ford day, as his car mods
seem to the most extensive ever seen at Fordmods.

For the flash, you will need to get a tune off a workshop that has already done the mods and know it works.

I sourced mine through CMS here is Sydney. CMS supplied the tune as a bonus when I purchased the XCal3 from them.

The tune allowed the engine to run off the BA PCM as a stand alone unit.

You will need to tell the tuner what PCM you have as they need to match the PCM to the strategy they modify.

The rest of the stuff is in my build thread.

Cheers
BenJ

Thanks BenJ.
I've been a fan of your thread for a while.
I like what you've done with the old family bus :P

I heard BPR in Victoria have quite handy with conversion and PCM upgrades, I'll give them a buzz when I manage to source the motor.
