Hey guys,
I'm looking at buying a 2004 BA XR6T, had a quick look today, body and interior all checks out ok, but tomorrow I should be taking it for a test drive so just wondering what sort of things to look out for. It has done 140,000kms but it's got complete service history, all Ford, and I only do about 5-10k kms a year anyway so it's not going to climb up heaps any time soon, too many kms on the clock?

So yeah, any specific things to check for? Apart from the usuals

misfiring, anything to do with acceleration...

ask when the plugs have been replaced and how many times,

check intake.. sometimes people, even car yards can be dodgy with intakes.. some might have leaks and that in it.

accelerate the s**t out of it.. gotta test her hard and that just to make sure it's not a bodgy and or screwed up engine.

check oil..

TURBO CHECKS
-mileage on the turbo,
-check oil outlet, musnt be obstructed in anyway,
-check oil inlet size,
-has the turbo been tuned/what psi is it running at? factory? tuned?
-some turbos have cracked wastegates with a bit of mileage on the clock... so definately check the waste gate and that for any signs of cracks/hard wear .

that might be it... im sorry if it's the "usual' checks but it's all i could think of. D: !

Cheers for that guys.

One question though, I did a Vicroads check on the car, it all checks out apart from it has an encumbrance recorded against it. The car is at a dealer, but the encumbrance is registered by another dealer, dodgy? The current registration details are of the dealer it is located at.

If a car is at a dealer, it should have no encumbrance, yeah?

If it has encumbrance and your getting it from a dealer, they LEGALLY are not allowed to sell it with the encumbrance remaining on the car.
