now that ive finally got the shims, im looking at installing my wade 1636
im not to keen on doing it myself since iv never replaced a cam before and i dont particularly want to stuff anything up :)

if i was to get it done at the mechanics roughly how much would i be up for??
although iv heard that the 1636 runs on both the standard computer and springs is it worth looking at a j3 chip to get the most out of the cam or is this just a waste of money??

cheers

You should be able to get away with just the stock ECU...if you have the extra money I guess you can get the J3 chip. I suggest getting a Vernier Camshaft Sprocket first though, it's a relatively cheap tuning gear if you want aftermarket camshafts to run well.

Not sure how much it would cost to install a camshaft, but I would assume $100 or more.

okey dokey
anything just over $100 sounds pretty reasonable
how much is a vernier gear worth roughly?
if i was to have a crack myself is there any tech docos i could use as a guideline?
apparently its pretty straight forward, but ive never taken the rocker gear apart before so im not to sure wats involved

cheers

I recon most mechanics would allow two hours to install a cam in the SOHC I6, more to dial it in, budget for at least two hours at the rate charged where ever you get the work done.

Mate with Wade cams theyre drop in and go, dont worry about the vernier gear if your strapped for cash or dont plan on changing cams again.

With the $ saved, get a J3 instead!

i got mine second hand from a fellow fordmodder
im pretty sure its around $150 for a regrind from wade cams
you'll need to allow another $40 or so for shims on top of that though

hi guys, sorry to hi-jack but don't see a point in starting a new thread, and just want to know a few things about my own install.
dropping in a crowcam into my AU, its going into a brand new! AU engine. just wondering what other things i'll need to get it in. (shims, vernier gear, springs?)
cheers
