timiing could be out....

not enuff shims...so when u rev it u could end up having piston eating valves which is also a similar outcome to havin the timing out

dont know much else. hope that helps...

cams can be installed poorly, but its not that hard to rectify them.

first thing to check to see if the cams in *reasonable* nik is to listen to it, at idle any rattles or taps (first starting doesnt count for taps), and if you rev it is it rattly, when my cam was WAAY off when you rev it as the revs came down it rattled its head off. its all fixed now.

when buying a modded car, be carefull of other areas, that people often forget to care for, such as gearbox, diff, and suspension.

If its running already why would there be any issue?
Don't listen to anyone who hasn't tested the engine and given you a proper report on it.

Comp test, oil pressure test, typical stuff like checking service history can reveal alot. Check for damage/repairs.

If its a dealers car see if u can get the name and address of the previous owner, give em a ring and ask questions they may tell who did the mods so ask them wat they did, most people r quite happy to tell ya about the vehicle, private sale do the same who built the motor and go from their,u could also get an inspection.
