Gday, Im just wondering how other peoples cars are going when puttin new camshafts in them?

I use to have a Wade 1502AU cam in my car and it went great. But the only time it seem to go really good was when you reset the ECU.

I just put the Wade 1671AU cam in my car and that is going even harder again. But have the same issue, what happened was; when i got the camshaft first put in the car, it went like the clappers and everytime i would try boot it, it would light the tires up straight away, after a few weeks the power seems to dampen down and the midrange starts to get dowie. When i reset the ECU (leave battery disconnected for an hour) and then go for a drive it has picked up the strong mid range responsiveness it has before.

Is this because of it not being tuned maybe? and the ECU is being reset back to the factory default and when it tries to relearn itself it dosn't do it correctly?

Has anyone found the same thing with the car at all?

I have had my car booked in a few times to get the chip put in an tuned but he has had problems with his computer and it is booked back it for the 22nd. Im hoping the chip will fix the problem.

Cheers

I would think it's a tuning issue. I have found that my car does go smoother with a reset ECU, not sure why though and my car is not tuned either.

Cam is going well...no problems so far.

Ok cool, hope the chip will sort the problem out.

The ecu is a learning computer. Every time you reset your ecu, it removes the 'learning' memory you had prior to resetting. After about 100km of resetting your ecu, the ecu learns the way you drive your car based on the engine mods given and slowly forces itself to run smoother according to factory specs.

A custom tune of some description is basically your only option to get around this, and even then you will need tuning maintenance every now and again as the ecu will force itself to store things in its learning memory.

Thats my take on it. Correct me if Im wrong

The AU computer is the most advanced of all the SOHC ford sixes. It detects that it is making too much power, and alters its ignition timing and fuel load to try and scale it back to where its meant to be.

Every AU engine that has a cam shaft should get a flash tune minimum. this overwrites the factory setting and remains as long as you have the program loaded, no need for resets.

costs about $700 for a new flash tuner and then depending on where you take it another $500 or so for custom tune. You should really get a custom tune as it unlocks even more power from the engine and parts you have installed while possibly improving fuel economy.

good to hear the 1671 is powerin on gezza, mines still sitting in my room. no job = no funds for zoom zoom.

your spot on Grimketel
AUs need to be tuned after a cam change, not like the e-series where you could put some big mofos in them and they would cope, a bit rich, but ok!

get a J3 and custom tune & should be sorted. Thats assuming all the sensors, filters & ignition components are up to scratch

Even though it is an e series it runs the EEC V computer. It's almost the same as the au version but with not quite the built in tuning capabilitys. Due to this it will behave like an au when you put a cam in. If you get a chip you will reduce your issues.

its an el hybrid, it may have the same self learning capabilities as the au series.

does it have an OBD port under the dash in the fuse box like an au does?

I was told the el EEC V was only a 20 pin/port ecu(can't remember the term that was used) like the rest of the e series cars. The au is a 40 pin/port item. Falcons didn't go to obd system till the au.
