The pod was exposed but it was secured with a bracket (so it wasn't flapping around in the breeze).

I didn't really want too get into an argument with them because I know my exhaust would be a little bit over the EPA noise limits. So i took it on the chin and told them I would sort it out.

They then checked my boot contents and too see whether I had legal tread on my spare wheel.

A few cars got yellow canaries that night!!!!! mainly for tyres, too low suspension or lights/indicators/neons(ricers) etc....

Cheers...

Why not get a second EF/EL airbox and modify it so the pod fits inside it...

There is no law against pods as far as I am aware, I think they just have to be enclosed in an airbox.

If you had the pod un-exposed, I believe it would have been okay.

But good on you for not getting into an argument...saved you more headaches and a possible canary.

your spare tyre does NOT need to be legal until it is bolted to a road axle.
if they ever get you on a bald spare tyre tell them you see them in court.

this rule has changed about a dozen times in the last ten years. It is my understanding that the spare tire does need to be legal as it may need to be used at any time.

I do not know about QLD but you would be wasting money in court fees in NSW, you can't legally register a car with a bald tyre for a spare, it is due to potentially you could end up using it, police have many powers here that could defect a car as it drove away from being passed for registration and legally cleared.

I can pass a car "without" reverse lights, windscreen washers, battery secure and more, the police could be outside the gate and could defect the vehicle for these things alone.

Exposed pod filters are illegal here too, it makes you laugh when they try to defect an old car for exposed air filter when they were released like that, many of the NSW cops haven't got a clue (QLD was the same when I lived there), many have no automotive training and have no idea about ADRs other than the basics they are given.

On the exposed pod filter subject, it is pretty pointless to have one anyway in the engine bay unless you are after "wank" value, put them on a dyno with a before and after to see what I mean (close the bonnet while testing, it will give you a better idea of real time start and stopping), all you are picking up is hot engine bay air and lots of noise, forget about the behind the wheel wank value, more noise doesn't always mean better performance.

i wonder what how far the definition of "enclosed" can go?

ive opened up the top corner of the airbox, but it seals against the bonnet when shut, ive also fitted foam to the bonnet since the pics were taken to seal it up more
