Need an opinion, I've been saving and got $1000 now to spend on the wagon. I'm gunna fit a Wade 1604 cam in it, and I thought maybe at the same time a Tickford/XR6 head?
But then I hear that through work we can get cheap work from the boys out at the Repco workshop/mechanic joint or what ever it is, so now I'm wondering, would it be better for me to get another standard head and get them to fit the 1604 cam to it and get some work done to the head (port and polish or what ever it is called?)?

dude dont bother with the xr6 head as it will be too much $$ ppl are asking aver $600 for 1!!!
get an normal head and get that worked ie a mild port/polish and a new/xr6 spec valves and the cam and it be sweet as!
also add the AU2 head gasket to bump up compression a few poinbts

Ok, so AU Series II head gasket (i'll grab that dirt cheap through work).
The XR6/Tickford spec valves are just the exhaust/outlet valves right? The inlet ones are the same as stock arn't they?
Mild port and polish and the Wade cam and all will sweet?

there is a bloke near where i work he said he would do my head(ef) for 500 thats with bigger valves than the xr6 ones. he said not to worrie about porting the ports as ford have really good size ports already but said he would clean out all the carbon and stuff for better flow

Acutally.. It is kinda of a bargain.

I'm getting an EF XR head fully reco'd at the moment to replace my head and by the time it gets onto my car, the end cost will be near $900 (including the cost of the new head). And thats using the existing springs and valves, just getting them all cleaned.

I suppose it would hit close to Webb's price if I was getting new valves, guides and springs.

Its alot of $$$ for an XR head, but in the end if you were doing the full proper reco job on a head, it gets close to those kinda $$$.

Head bolts are all the same, no difference between EF an AU bolts...

I know its expensive, but I want to keep the XR head.

I would think that these heads from JMM are Brendans favourite combination of a 94AA head that has been ported a bit... If I wanted to do that, id go to my local wrecker, buy one of these heads for $50 and spend $400 on a reco and port.

But then, I dont want to d**k around with emissions, idle problems, extra fuel consumption, etc... I just want to get the thing to work exactly how it should and not have any worries. Hence the reason of getting an XR head recoed...

So, anyone care to explain how fitting an AUII gasket will up the compresion, and why is the higher compresion a positive?

Would I be better off getting this: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... highlight= . or wold I have trouble getting that to run nicely off the stock ECU? And will the AU head bolt onto the EF bloke?
