I'm sure there's a difference between the 4sp and 3sp trans mountings, it's not just a straight swap.

If you don't know, get a w/shop manual, you gotta start somewhere.

89 was the last year that the 3sp auto was used. That is the EAII. At the time, when the auto sh!t itself, it was way cheaper to put in a 3sp auto. There were heaps of taxis running around here with 3sp instead of the 4sp it left the factory with.
At the time, it was about $2,500 for a little bit of fixing and up to $4,000 for a fair bit of fixing on the 4sp auto's. It was around the $1,200 to $1,500 for a 3sp auto.

4sp autos are fully electronic, they need an ECU to run the show, plus various sensors/switches to operate.
If you can build a car, then you'll be right then.
