I know that 02 sensors are pretty cheap to buy brand new but am just interested to know if they can be cleaned in order to improve fuel economy? If they can be cleaned successfully how is it done?

Have heard that if you introduce a vacuum leak and drive it for a few k's and medium revs the
lean mixture will cause enough heat to burn of impurities from the sensor.

I have read that soaking them in white vinegar overnight cleans them up well. But for $35 each on egay I just cant be f**k trying it. New ones all the way.

New ones all the way. crack seems to be the drug of choice on here lately... lol.. sanding the 02 sensor will do f**k all, its only cleaning the surface area of the sensor casing..lol i have used throttle body cleaner to clear the holes on a car that was burning excessive amounts of oil which clogged up the sensor.. otherwise if the engine is in good condition and is running rich ect, just replace it.. |

they have a life of about 100,000 ks,and polishing the outer case is a waste of time.using the wrong fuel also kills them,bite the bullet and replace it.

use this one i had good luck only ran 1 tank of gas till the car got into a fatality crash i want my sensor n mags BACK

Smartest thing I've seen in this thread. It's a fair assumption to say that %90 of cars over 100 000km old have old, malfunctioning O2 sensors. The simple advice to anyone with BF or older falcons is to just replace it. It's one of those things that will pay for it self in saved fuel. |

I've been reading of people having error codes with new oxygen sensors....Is that a common occurance?

Not sure mate, I was reading that someone put a new O2 sensor in their EL Ghia and then they found an error code. I don't know much about oxygen sensors so I'm trying to learn more about them.
