Howdy

I reciently broke down so i replaced the coil and the dizzy.

Once this was done we lined it all up - timing spot on.

When it was idleing it was fine - revved fine also.

Went to take it home and i lost power and acceleration + it started to idle rough

No power at all had to crawl back to the shed - Now it wont start at all or goes to kick over and dies

Any ideas? Computer or anything?

do you have any spark?
is there any power on the coil + terminal, how much voltage?
whats the coil lead like?

plenty of things could be the cause, its just a matter stepping through and isolating one at a time

xgs have a problem with the power relay, cranks but not start. also u shouldn't wire tie the leads togethor but u have to on xg-xh-ea-ed sometimes cause they arc across to the heaterpipe that runs past the dizzy cap, can cause rough idle lacking power.

That is exactly what happened to mine, put a multimeter on it and only 6 volts not 12 running thru it. Put another one on it and it was fixed.

Behind right hand shock mount you will see 2 relays. I think from memory one is the power relay and the other is fuel pump.....I might be wrong as it has been a while.

what is the best way to check to see if fuel is present?

Also can we force some kind of aerostart into it to see if will crank?

Ok we had a fiddle tonight

Got it running nicey - took for a test run and it died again

Seems like the computer is adjusting the timing when it warms up

My question is - the book tells me there is a dizzy dianostics wire that need to be earthed - If so where is it on the XG? Its not where the book says it is.

Also the dizy i have is an aftermarket one - should i get another motorcraft one and try that?

next time when it cuts out, check for spark, and it might be worth taking getting an injector test light to see if theres any injection pulses. Also make sure the pump is priming, you should be able to hear it when the key is 1st turned on.

injector test light would that just be a LED and resistor?
