Hi guys

My dad and i both own ef's but mine seems to be a rocket compared to his. His is on gas but even when its on petrol it has no go. He is thinking about rebuilding the engine but is worried if the computer will still make the car act the same.

Could i put my computer in their to see if it makes a difference, but would i loose any memory from my computer when it is disconnected and reconnected?

What do u guys suggest?

The computers do pretty much the same thing - if the computer is doing something wierd its usually because one of the sensors is telling it wierd things.

The problem is probably the LPG. Even when your running on petrol the LPG stuff is still there making a restriction.

I doubt it needs a rebuild. Try doing a self test on the ecu and a compression test and see what comes up.

IIRC, the computer has its sorta preset base coding as to how things should work and operate, but as you drive the computer learns and memorises factors such as fuel/air/spark/timing etc and makes adjustments as best it can...

if you were to change computers, the preset base code would remain, but the computer would start learning and adjusting for the new car, and forgetting what it had learnt about your car (however would relearn overtime if you put it back into your car)

but its probably going to eventually learn and do the same things as the current ECU thats in there, perhaps check your error codes/check sensors because if one of the sensors is sending the ECU dodgy information because its not functioning properly, it will mess with the cars drivability and performance

that being said, if your dad has a dual fuel ECU, i dont know if you can swap it for a normal ECU ?

My EF had no top end until I put a AU intake on it.
