Hey guys,

i have installed a fairmont dash into my gli and the coolant light keeps flashing i am aware that this is due to my existin overflow bottle not having a sensor on it but the dash thinks it does as such.

My question is as follows- can i simply replace the existing coolant bottle over with a sensored one and will it then be fine- is the plug there and ready to go oris it not as simple as this?

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

if u want to add a cootlant bottle with a sensor, the plug for the sensor is usually tucked away under the coolant bottle, round plug with 2 pins, or just take the globe out the back of the cluster

you may be able to short the wires accross the plug, but I have not tried this. Maybe someone can help here. I am not sure which way the float switches.

Get a new bottle with a sensor. That way it looks nice. The sensor is good to have, if the car ever drops its coolant, you will know before it even starts warming up.

I'm guessing your car is a GLi. You either have cruise or ABS, since you have the sensor plug in the engine bay loom (High series Loom). I don't think your dash loom will have the wiring however. When I added a sensor to my GLi, I just ran a new wire to the bottle. The cluster wiring/upgrade tech doco has the info you need.

If you CBF, just pull the globe out.

Priced a new one for an EA with sensor not long ago. still getting over the shock. Bought a new float and a s/h bottle, but even that was enough.

A 180 ohm resistor will also stop the light flashing.
As mentioned though, go the sensor system - saved my a*se before when I blew a hose.
