Hi all,

I went to repco to buy some power steering fluid a few weeks back and the guy told me to just get some cheap transmission fluid as it's the same thing... so I bought a litre of valvoline AFD tranny fluid and wacked it in..

now in the morning, until I rev the engine, I don't get power steering and also the fluid seems to have frothed up some under hard use.

Don't think it is think enough for the job.

what do you guys use?

EF onward uses a CLEAR power steering fluid. Genuine part number is R1 424. If you have put the RED stuff in you WILL have to flush it out completely. The fluid is special and the person who told you to put ANYTHING in there should be horse whipped

Mobil Fluid 424 is the spec you need.

Thanks guys..

I might as well go the official clear stuff then.. or dextron if the clear stuff is overly expensive or hard to get.

I have 3 spare pumps and another steering rack if I clagged something but I don't think I've done any damage to this point.

Thanks for the tips guys.. appreciated.

now back out to the shed to continue glassing my EL XR top half to my BA GT bottom front bar..... can't wait to get this thing on.

regards
