Have a mate at work and his wife was quoted $400 to replace the altenator in an EL monty ghia. I thought it sounded a little steep. Does anyone know a rough price for a reco or secondhand from wreckers? i was thinking around $80-$100 for secondhand.

Reco, dont expect much cheaper....

If you can find a wrecker willing to seperate the alternator from the engine he prob plans on selling it with, prob expect around the $200 mark....

Valuable little buggers!

Yeah pretty expensive considering they are the same from EF onwards and they are a common wearing part!

I didnt realise they were so expensive for the late models. I bought a recon bosch for an EA for $110 and the mitsubishi's were $130.

Mine died on the AU I6 EGAS ... was stranded ... NRMA came out with the replacement one and swapped it on the side of the road ... cost me $300 for a brand new one through them (this inc. labour as well)

I thought that was a bargain :)

yeah my friend got quoted 350 i think for a SECOND alternator for his car..... or 150 if he takes my Alternator from my EA to charge both batteries.....his car is only a camry. so im guessing 400 is a bit steep.

phong =P~
