Has anyone had this happen to them before and what did you do to fix it..

Hey I used a product called quicksteel its a putty just rough the area with something Sharp and smear it on.

Sets like steel and does a good job.

I had a very similar thing happen in my au

while the alloy can be welded,
depending on the extent of the crack i would say at the least the sump will need to be removed for repair, by either removing the engine or dropping the k frame and suspension and removing the sump from the engine..

if you have the funds? i would replace it with a new or second hand sump...

i fixed my mates commodoore sump - he excavated a boulder while 4wd ing around the place, it was a hairline crack around 40mm long no hole or chunk missing but weeping oil pretty bad.

dropped oil,
cleaned up area with degreaser
background the crack a bit
degreased again
got aluminium wire for my mig set the welder to its highest setting
ran a single very fast run along the crack without depositing much metal (this sealed the crack and stopped the oil dripping through but was nasty as s**t)
cleaned up with grinder and degreaser
ran two more good weavy runs over that

all done and took 1/2 an hour with the car on stands without removing the sump

if youve got the time and money replace the damaged one
if youve got the tools and your a tight a*** repair it using my guide

So the plan is. My brothers mate has a hoist and his doing the work on it for me. picking up a sump from just falcons in kilsyth tomorrow for $85, get that back to me mate then he'll fit it up and it should all be done by Thursday for around $500.

so hope all goes well and we don't run into any trouble.

Could anyone tell me if a 2006 bf standard 6 take the gasket or the silicon stuff to seal up the sump..

thanks again...
