well the new cam and springs went in tonight. started around lunch and finished about 9-10. the first thing i noticed is that the idel wasnt actully too bad. just got that little bit of lumpiness too it. anyway ran it on 1500rpm for 10 mins and then took her out for a little drive. didnt really open it up yet because its still being run in (ment to be run in for 2 hours). but all i gota say is wow! this thing pulls f**k hard. wasnt inspecting it to push me back in the seat so much with only 3500rpm. took it to 4000rpm and still no lag (wow it just keeps going lol) gear changes are alot smoother, dont get that dead spot inbetween gear changes, feels like consistant power. all in all im very happy with the installation. the car itself is really starting to get moving now. cant wait to run it in and then really open her up.

one thing i did notice though is that the tappets are rather loud? iv herd its ment to be running for a while so the tappets can get lubricent into them again (because of the hydraulic) and we did have the rockers off to fit the springs. but we took it for a 20 min drive and still they are rather loud. now its either i need to run them in more or the tappets cant handle the valve lift? should i get new tappets? has anyone had the problem of noisy tappets after installing a rather warm cam? cheers

Nice work with the cam dude...have to post a vid link or audio clip when shes all properly run in...sounds sweet tho.

Not sure on the cam related tappet noises but i think a few guys have had this issue with multiple cam styles and makes when going decent ones.

Been watching your gradual buildup, I like it :) Good effort for a first car!

The tappets should fill up again after not even 5 mins of idle. Maybe its time to go for a thicker oil or add a lifter cleaner, idle for half an hour then replace oil.

Don't need retainer clips, they're only needed for assembly. And can be substituted with tape.

MY new cam only ticked for a few seconds upon first start - again waiting for them to fill with oil again.

I'm not running retainer clips. Its a pain in the a** to put the HLA's in without them, but it is possible.

My car took about 5 mins of gentle driving for my tapet tick to disappear.

if the tappets move in the arm they are gonna make a ticking noise, even with retainer clips they can be a pain in the a** to get them in there firmly
