Happy: is that to do with the brake pressure switch on the master cylinder?
(mines not wired up to that lol)
Yes, the switch that is mounted near the front of the master cylinder, with the connector facing the engine is meant to be a backup for the main brake light switch for disengaging the cruise control.
That switch has nothing to do with cruise control, its been on every ford with or with out cruise since XD maybe even earlier, that switch on the master cylinder is the brake fail switch! Lights up brake fail warning light on cluster.
Have a read of itchione's reply above - what you're talking about here is the other switch (brake failure) that sits halfway down underneath the master cylinder . . . . .

Ok I stand corrected, however in my defence the position of the switch is the same location Ford have used for the brake fail switch in the past. The switch under the master cylinder is less noticable unless you are actually looking for it.

have the doco from FM1 at home... pics and all!
PM me your email and i will send it tonight. :D

edit: and yes i have had the same thing...with the switch broken the cruise does turn off but u have to give the brake a bit more of a hit.
With the switch working you only need a real light touch, and the bonus of your brake lights working is also good. 8-)

Just resurrected this thread after a "cruise control" search because my car's cruise control is now doing that revving / surge when I apply the brakes. I'll be checking to see if my brake lights are actually lighting up in the morning and if they are not then I'll probably need to source a new brake light switch. The thing is that someone on the forum recently said that there was a "heavy duty taxi" brake light switch made by Ford and if so, could someone give me a part number or will Ford actually have this item for sale should I need it?

Yep, checked the car this morning and no brake lights.

Bump on the "heavy duty taxi" brake light switch question. Anyone know?
