ok im going to build a new engine for my car. originaly i thought 2K would be enought but how stupid i was. im getting a fully recond engine with oversize (about 20 or 30 though i think) ACL pistons, a few thou (about 20 or 30) off the head, stage 2 crow cam, and possibly bigger valves (XR6 size) for 3K.

i realise that i could get this a lot cheaper from JMM or ITS PERFOMANCE but i live in SA and dont want to be dealing with another state (if any thing goes wrong) so just wondering of this sounds right or if any one can give me the name of somewhere cheaper (preferably down south)

also this is from PERFOMANCE AUTOMOTIVE, and my car is an EB 5 speed.

and i done ALOT of ringing around and this seems to be the going rate, also with this engine what would be my RWKW??? any guesses??

Give Antony from ALTED Performance a buzz too. He should be able to build you a very nice motor and can get it freighted over.

His username is au2low if you want to PM him.
His website is www.altedperformance.com

mate for a stock rebuild like that, it is frightingly expensive... defineltly around the 2000-2200 mark. id forget the XR valves and also the crow cam. better off with a wade IMO. simply because of the cost difference. XR only ran a 2mm oversize exhaust valve. not really worth worrying about for fairly stock applications.

the price for a stock rebiuld was around 2000-2200 but then the oversize pistons and the cam put it up. i considered using a wade cam but dont like the idea of using shims, or the idea of using a second hand cam (even if it been recond.) and i would have thought that even just 2mm bigger valves would make a difference (XRs did go faster)

The oversize pistons don't make it any more expensive..Unless you are comparing prices with just a hone and re-ring..Which I must say is all thats needed most times...
I bought a complete ACL race series overhaul kit for $580...That included hi volume oil pump...Etc...It maybe cheaper to buy latter model head??
$180 ballancing...$1100 for short block...Head EDXR6 in my case wasn't touched, except reface...

as soon as i mentioned the pistons the price went up $250+ then the cam 350+, cost works like this Short motor (with ACL pistons) $1650, head (minus cam) $600. BUT as my engine is completly f***ed i will need to get a second hand bottom end around $300 from wrecker

total price nearly $3000

NOW.... whats this acl kit, whats is in it??? and where did you get it from???

Send Mark (ITS Performance a PM) perhaps for no other reason than your own piece of mind. Also consider that the quality of any work is not the sum of its parts. Cost of parts plus labour (and expertise).
Places like ITS Performance will give you a quality result with the assurance that every care and attention has been taken. The fact that its done at a reasonable price is one thing, though does not diminish your other blokes offering if the work will be performed to high standards by a competant craftsman. Either way, it's your money.

Mark's prices include either fitting or freight as well. He is well regarded.

i realise how well reguarded the work is from ITS, how ever say something does go wrong (for what ever reason) NSW is a long way from SA.

i might do a little more research and give mark an e-mail.

thanx for all your help so far.

can anyone give me a litle more info on what is included in an ACL race series overhaul kit and where i can get it from???

it wasnt just the exhast Valves that made them faster!!! lol. you would be intersted to know that they only started 41 mm exhaust Valves on the 94DT heads. (late ED and EF) all the earlier tickfords got bog stock 39mm....

lol, i know that they had more than just bigger valves, however i was just trying to get the point accross that evry mod (no matter how small) will help tour engoine run. and that info is interesting, where there anyother diffferences between std heads and ed xr6 heads, how much exta do you think it would be to get an xr6 one rather than standard??
