i need to do the sump gasket on my fairmont, whenever i park on my mates driveway, or any hill for that matter it leaves a s**t load of oil on the ground... so i know its either k frame down or engine out,
does it take long to drop k frame? could someone run through the procedure/what to look out for, any problems? would be much apreciated..
cheers guys

It is easier to do it on a hoist.....remembering you still have to hold the engine up too.
Get a quote from a repair shop....see what they want $$$.

Assuming its a rubber gasket you probably don't need to removing the sump because you should be able to lift the motor enough to be able to drop the sump and replace the gasket.
I have dropped the sump in situ on an EF to retrieve a broken chain guide.

i think it would be pushing it trying to just loosen the mounts off to do it, i tryed when i was doing the head gasket.. i loosened the mounts and lifted it up and it looked way to squeezy to do the gasket properly.

is ed k frame same as ea?
Many moons ago i replaced sump gasket on my ea without removing anything. undid all sump bolts and wiggled gasket in to position feeding it from one side to the other was fiddly but easier than dropping k frame.

Or the back of the rocker cover gasket.......you can try and tighten the sump bolts a little.
You could also give it a really good degrease, and drive it for 10 mins after and have a look to see if you can see where it's coming from...?????

if the cars auto have you also checked if its leaking out the rear seal of the trans around the tail shaft, or are you 100% sure its coming from the sump gasget

The leak looks like its comeing from around the harmonic balancer, the sides of the actual sump are dry, its just the front and rear. leaks like whit when parked on a hill, i parked facing downhill and within 5 mins there was a size of iphone of oil on the floor.. so im guessing its the rubber seal around the bottom of the harmonic balancer and the rear...
