actually its not illegal to fit a older engine to a later car but it must have all the accesories and emissions that the car came with..
so you can put a ea engine into a el if you want but it must have all the stuff from the el on it(bbm , canister purge ect)

well you can as long the efi and emissions dont change.

there is no law that said you cant put the 3 belt set up on a el or put a ea diff or gearbox in a el .. but engine wise the blocks are pretty much the same..
only things like efi manifolds and as i said "emissions"...make it an issue...

ive seen a el with a ea 3.9 with a cfi manifold running straight gas..
as long as the car meets emissions there is no problem...

most people dont go backwards but it has been done!

IIRC you can run older motors in newer cars but it had to be straight gas.

But really just go for a EF motor cause its not worth the f**k around.

i have read these posts on and around formods and ig get the idea that the ea is near idenical to the el one mius bbm etc etc so wouldn't there be just about the same troubles and buttin a el/ef motor in then putting the 3.9 head/block and whack the el bbm and exhahust manifolds etc etc etc..
