Just a little note to let you guys know we had some fun in the weekend.

My wifes car, after 304,000k's, original engine finally let us down on a trip to Canberra. Luckily it happened not far from Narellaen, so it's getting an AU 6 cyl transplant thanks to the guys at MacArthur Part Plus.

Should be a good little runner again in the next few weeks.

Bring on the 4.0 !!!! Better economy and a little more power, not that she wants the extra power. So here's to another 300k's in the beast.

Chris

Should be a real efficient, and reliable car now (sounds like it was somewhat on the original engine too). Your wife is a lucky lass.

you will only notice better gains if the mechanics install a Broad Band Manifold and an EL computer and loom with the 3800rpm switch.

If they only replace the long motor and not the inlet manifold then i doubt you will notice any huge increase in power.

you'll notice an increase in torque and power but not much in the economy area,,on long trips the 4l is unreal but around town its just as bad as the 3.9.

I still don't reckon he will notice much difference without the broad band manifold and el computer...it's as simple as that.................

cams and heads are way better on an AU 4L so it will still be noticable, however to gain the full effect it would need a BBM

i've changed my 3.9 over to a 4 litre and noticed a big difference with increased torque,on long trips the economy is excellent, around town where i am is ok,but could be better.

TMAN NK there was an AU engine up for grabs on ebay for 550 bux...but another 200 to get it freighted down to melbourne from QLD...and judging from your location it would have been cheaper.

too bad an AU engine into an EL will be harder then chucking the AU into an EA or else iw ould have done the transplant to my EL.....good luck with it though
