Keep the 3.9. If you're on a tight budget I don't think an engine swap or t5 conversion are on the books.
Pod filter should liven her up a little. Or atleast make it sound a bit beefy..er.
Hollow out your cat converter. Its probably not doing its job anymore anyway.
New plugs and leads and advance the timing.
And get her serviced.
That's what id be doing if on a budget.

don't hollow out the cat, its massively illegal if you get caught.

You got the time and not the coin, easy answer to your qiestion is spending the time servicing and cleaning stuff up. clean sensors, give it a good service, get the $$ together to get simple tools and fluids and so on. build a small tool box of tools, these are invaluble. Having your own tools is better than ever borrowing someone elses.

Otherwise, tell us a budget you have to play with then the masses can tell you how to use it.

About the only mod you can do for an auto car to get it off the line faster is to put in a 3.45 diff from an EB XR6 etc. You should be able to pick one up for $200 - $300.

But as dc_todd suggested, a good service, replacing all of the leads, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor button, coil, fuel filter, oil, oil filter and air filter is the best way to start. Drop the water from the radiator and fill it up using new coolant, and get the auto serviced.

Get all the bushes checked and replace any that need it.

You can get off the shelf 2.5" exhausts for approx $350.

Read a few of the garage threads for ideas too.

Cheers
BenJ

Well you go do an engine swap for 500 wildeb. Halfwit.
The 3.45lsd is probably the best option on that budget.
Say $300 on it then use the rest on servicing.

Put a engine flush through. And replace the oil and filter. Use a good oil. Personally id recomend nulon 15w40.
Clean the throttle body and the ics. Would cost say $20 for stuff to clean it up.
Chuck a new panel filter in her. Or a pod. Costs around $20.
Bump the timing up.
New leads and plugs. I use eb xr6 plugs. They seem to handle the timing advance better.
New coolant would be a good idea too.

Hope you get some help from this thread.

im listening. All I hear is the loonytoons on the tube.
Good buy tho. I take I you didn't have to spend a dime on It.
Didn't need a new head gasket. Seals. Rockercover gasket. Lifters.anything? And you didn't need to spend anymoney on parts to help you swap it?
If so find me one of these engines.
