My apprentice while changing the alternator somehow managed to strip the thread that tensions the belt and just keeps spinning around. Any ideas how to rectify this.

Its actually on the alternator not the bracket.

need a new front/rear housing then.

or you could use thinner bolt though it with a spring washer and nut on the other end

a) Change alternator front housing or swap complete alternator.
b) Fit helicoil
c) Drill out and use bolt, nut and spring washer.

the apprentice bit was a joke it was my son doing the changeover but got a little enthusiastic when tightening the bolt. thats all.

ahh ok then. well doesnt soudn good then.

your right optin "c" is possibly the easiest unless you have a helicoil handy
