gday all just have a question for ya
currently have a 93 eb and a 94 ef in the eb the throttle cable is very soft and dont need any effort to get the car to move, but the ef the throttle cable is rock hard and takes a lot of effort to get the car to move. i know one is eather stuffed or on the way out but witch one? and are they to replace? as i have never done one. cheers

I would expect the soft cable to be the stuffed one. Because the stretched cable slack is just play. on the EB its piss easy to change. Dont think EF will be much harder. What you should do is take of the throttle body inlet pipe and get someone to sit in the car and press the acc flat. See if the butterfly is opening all the way. If the butterfly is tilted then your cable is stretched and your losing throttle. So you either change the cable or modify it to be tighter.

Prices vary. I was last quoted 50 bux. So i instead put a spacer on my cable to make it tighter.

Go to a wrecker. That sort of stuff they usually say you can have it for nothing. Also, I would have thought the stiff cable would be the buggered one, after all, you said the one in the EB had little resistance and just took a breath to get motion from the vehicle. To me, the tight hard to depress cable would be the shagged one as generally thats not how they are meant to be.
The cables are easy as to get out, one tip, when you try to get it out of the footwell, it is easier to undo the 2 nuts holding the throttle pedal to the floor to get at the clip holding the cable in place than it is to stuff around with screw drivers etc to get it out in situ. |
