i recently bought an everglade green eb fairmont off a member on here. he had it just barely running on gas and petrol it would just cough and splutter. now ive stripped off all gas components, only thing left is the wiring however the gas ecu is disconnected.
it has an el hybrid head on it and all work looks quite fresh.
problem is ive got it running now on just petrol and its blowing out black/blue smoke on startup till it warms up. it revs freely in neutral but as soon as i put it in drive or reverse and put the foot down a little hard it doesnt go, backfires, nearly stalls then launches off, as soon as it hits 900rpm it flies.
once its warm it only blows the smoke AFTER you put it under load.
i know it has an exhaust manifold and exhaust leak, and ive noticed the injectors spin/move a little too easy and spray out fuel where they join onto the fuel rail on the odd occasion.
WTF IS IT?? i cant get roadworthy because of the smoke on start up :( it also smells very rich on fuel

Check all the vacuum lines, in particular the Map Sensor Vac line.

yeh ive looked at just about everything now, will definately check that map sensor, i unplugged it and off memory the car just idled up real high, which i assume its working? but ill check that vaccum line because i know i had to put the one that goes into the back of the intake manifold back in yesterday. couple others might have blown off too, could this explain the issue of cold start and smoke issues?

make sure you get new seals on the injectors mate, the last thing you want is fuel leaking out all over the place with a hot engine.
funny thing is i was going thru all the for sale threads just yesterday looking for an eb fairmont on gas and found the one you now have, no wonder i havent heard back from the guy.
cheers

i gave it some fuel octane booster and injector cleaner to see if it'd give me an idea, its now running at about 90% of wat it should be compared to before probably 75%, which leads to fuel system being dirty as fu&* and possibly letting air in, it only backfires when u stall it up hard like a brakey instead of when u take off all the time...hence the smoke out of exhaust AFTER revving and cold start.
How do u know which one i bought? i dont get that?! lol got it at a steal and hoping to get it on road next thursday, its already got so much power after stripping off the gas i cant believe it.
had this exact car for my first car and hoping to actually finish the project this time as i got rid of mine due to money issues. any tips would help thanks.

Have you done all the obvious things, like new plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotor button and coil?

Let me know if you want/need some injectors, I have a decent set sitting idle.
