I started my car today to go out, The rpm went from idle to 1700 to idle to 1700 to idle, So I turnd the car off and opend the bonnet to check it out, I tryed to start the car again, here is where the problem starts, it wouldnt start wouldnt even turn over, all the usual idiot lights came on, and I held the key to the start possition and a nother one came on "Brake Fail" What would the problen be?

Could anyone help me out? I need to fix this asap as im going to work in 5 Hours.

Car is a EBI Fairmont Ghia

Thanks Tristo

brake fail is usual.... check battery charge and possibly smart lock (worst case scenario)

So ok yeah really helpful, as I had figured that out, I still dont know the reason for the "Brake Fail" light tho my brakes are fine from what i can tell, I have reason to belive its my starter but that still doesnt explain the brake fail light, any helpful info/advice would be much appreciated

Cheers Tristo

Ok well its starts when i hot wire the starter to the battery, and its charging nicely, so its not the starter or altenator at this point, my mate recons its and ignition problem so on tuesday ill take it into the auto elec and get his opinion. It also drives and stops as normal.

Cheers Tristo

mate i fitted an aftermarket alarm to my car made by code ages ago (2 years) anyway i had the same thing happen to me last weekend, so i jumped my ign immobiliser and it started fine, now im not saying u have an after market alarm which is stopping your eb from starting, what i would be checking though is that when you put your key to the start pos, you have 12V output on ur ign cct. now you seem pretty cluey, because you and your mate have figured out its an ignition problem already. im just confirming your suspicion.

if you dont find your 12V at your ign barrel then look at your relays, if you do have an aftermarket immob etc. disconnect it!
