In the last week or so i've noticed the car not starting as easily as it used to, and i don't mean it turns over and over and then eventually fires up, i mean it will turn over really slowly to the point where it might stop all together.

I'll come back in a few minutes and it'll start straight up.

At the moment im at work and at lunch i tried to start the car but the car turned over really slowly and then stopped all together and now all i get is a clicking sound, presumably the relay for the starter solenoid..

Now my car is gonna be stranded at work so im gonna need a list of suspects.

first thing that came into my mind was the battery.. i checked water level just then and they are a bit low ( i think i can see the top of the plates ) so im guessing collapsed cell (not enough juice to turn over the engine)

I've also had someone suggest solenoid and or brushes.

Whats the best way to diagnose this or am i gonna have to get a mechanic to check it out?

thanks guys

yep definately sounds like a falt battery. The brushes in the starter motor would be my next guess if your battery is fine... But the clicking is the starter relay which only does this when the battery is flat. Doesn't normally click AFAIK.
Get a good battery while you're at it, dry cell, they last ages.

Cheers
