Over the last year/30 000k's I've been slowly losing coolant (not leaking), blowing a bit of white smoke when cold (disappears completely when warm) and now more recently every single time I start the car for the first time in the day it'll splutters/surges on an extremely low idle (barely able to run), then after 5-10 seconds it clears up and idles like normal, I was thinking maybe this is coolant in the cylinder chamber? It's been blowing white smoke for over a year now haha if it is a head gasket it's an extremely slow one, the oil is fine, it hasn't mixed with the coolant. Is there anything besides a stuffed head that would cause a rough start???

don't get it, it's not losing any coolant (was just expanding) compression is fine, no milky oil, cleaned throttlebody/gas mixer, cat converter not the issue, isc seems fine, entire ignition system is only a couple of months old (including dizzy/tfi module), new O2 sensor, thermostat tightened manifold gaskets. Not to mention the rough start was there before I replaced the entire ignition system and fiddled with the timing.

I had a very slow coolant leak in the Eb Ghia for about a year before the head gasket let go properly. When the head was removed, one piston was almost clean enough to eat off! It had been slowly leaking when cold for a while! It's possible the gasket is leaking.... There was never any milkyness in the oil before the gasket let go in a major way.

Cheers

Cheers I ended up buying an AU motor as this has 350 thou on it anyway. I'm going to use the existing log manifold with my lpg setup and hopefully that'll end my engine dramas!

Haha nah only paid $200 for it. low k's (around 140 000), got the fans/el rad/el ac compressor for $60, will come up under $400 after everything hopefully. The gaskets looking like it's probably stuffed, with the lpg one of the screws is turned in completely which doesn't seem right (was always like this though) I'm trying to get a vid of it idling but all it records is fan noise lol.
