EA series 1...lighter than EF/EL by a long way.

Yeah i know this is a couple months old but I forgot about it, just to update on it, picked up an EB II SXR6, manual, nice and cheap but did need some work for roady, 2 rear tyres, battery, windscreen, were the majors, been registered for over a month now, been goin beautifully, took it to calder and got a PB of 15.7, which Im happy with, although I know it requires a new fuel filter, and It was my first time at the drags, so probly lacked the skill for a good time, but a 15.7 completely stock was a pretty good result.

I'll be looking to cam it soon, most likely 977B, and get some extractors, just need some more cash :P, also some rims and a lowering will be nice, but I think i wanna get it quicker first ;)

Sounds like a good score & that's not a bad time for a stocker!

The car's are much more fun with a 5spd in them. :D As for the EA & EB s1 being "lemons", there were faults with them when they come out, but let's face it, 17+ years on, the one's with the faults from the factory are either off the road or the faults have been repaired.

Cheers

the only problem that may not have been sorted in EA and EB1 3.9L was the bottom end knock and crankshaft end float.

but in typical Ford style mine has had it for 30,000kms and still does trips to Melbourne!

Yeah but let's think a little further up the engine on this one. How many would have had head gaskits done? All of them by now. Also, how many still have the original engine & not an exchange full reco? ( due to head gaskit's going on them)

Sure, it's possibly still an issue in some 3.9 powered car's, but not as much of an issue as it was when they were less than 5 years old. Issues that can be fixed relatively cheaply too.

Cheers

i might be wrong about the 3.45s ToranaGuy..

i've got a book at home that says what centres they had, i'll check later and post what it says. Its entirely possible someones put a different centre in throughout its life, theres plenty of centres out there and open wheelers are bloody depressing..

nah Jay they did come out with 3.45:1 in EB onwards XR6

and EB S-pacs should have a 3.23:1 open wheeler

so if yours has a 3.27:1 it's wrong. thats a Fairmont/ Fairmont Ghia diff
