hey all

got a problem with my eb2 non smart lock

i was driving back home the other day and the battery light came on so i managed to get it home before the battery was flat thinking it was an alternator

so i got another one from a mate the other day and tried it and the battery seemed to be flat so i changed it and jump started it and it was running fine till i removed the jumper leads and it stalled

so i then got another alternator and the same thing on all three the battery light stays on while running on jumper leads and then when i remove them they stall

i cant check if its the alternators because the volt meter is high when they are connected to the jumper leads but when removed i cant check it

i also have one of those battery terminals the gold ones with the voltage on it and it if thats anything to do with it

i also tried a different battery same thing

its driving me up the wall

any suggestions would be great

it sounds like the alternators are stuffed..

if you remove the jumper leads the alternator should supply enough power to keep the engine running...

so when you remove the jumper leads there is no voltage coming from the alternator= engine stop....

is the charge light on before you start it and does it go out at all??

with the engine running you test voltage with a multi meter at the terminal at the back of the alternator..

otherwise have a look at the fusable links at the battery terminal...

Check the wiring. Corrosion is a b**ch but source it out. Contacts might be bad and also the signal wiring might be damaged somewhere else other then near the alternator.

Alternator is probably fine, just wires to the battery might be screwed.

.. could the contributing factor stopping the alternator from charging be where the regulators are .. on them there are 2 little square things {bushes, brushes no doubtedly most likely called something else }.. anyways that was happening to someone elses car and they werent in the right spot when the regulator got put back in and hence werent charging the battery ... maybe they might need cleaning or arent in the right place .. maybe if the alternators have been high pressure degreased theyve come unstuck (on the replacement ones i mean).. sorry best way i can word it im female and far from mechanically minded maybe someone can clarify using the correct terminology.. hope my 2 cents worth may be a possible solution

yea dont know thanks for the replies though i will try replacing the brushes i ordered 2 sets to do 2 alternators as i know they go could be my luck that all three alternators have worn brushes

now all i have to do is work out how to dismantle the alternators as the brushes are internal

anyone have an idea?
