I own a eb2 with usual mods<pacies, zorst,xh snorkel, bmc and thermos.>and use optimax. Just set base timing to 15degrees and found engine not to ping and give slight performance gain. Just want to know what base timing others are running and if 15deg is too much?

Standard specs are 10 deg plus or minus 2 deg.Mine was on 9 and now on 15,seems ok for now and should get little gain in fuel economy too.

14 to 15 degrees is about as far as you can go before it starts to ping.

As you said, you will get some better seat of pants acceleration and better fuel economy.

But you can only run it on high octane fuel, like Optimax or BP Ultimate. Any lesser a fuel, and it will ping really bad everywhere in the rev range.

Just remember pinging can occur without you hearing it....
