Hi guys,
I have an EB2 6cyl and I have replaced the head gasket and the timing gear which I have posted about elsewhere. Ok, its all back together and now the car won't start. The valve timing is set perfect and the dizzy is in the right place. Both have been checked countless times. Ok, it is getting spark and it seems to be getting fuel as when you take out a plug there is fuel on it and you can smell fuel. I went through the greggory's manual and it says to check injector pulse. I took an injector lead off and used a test lamp and it has positive voltage on both terminals???? But when you turn crank the motor over the lamp doesn't flash as it is supposed to. The lamp just stays on. The manual states that if the lamp doesn't flash under cranking conditions then check all earthing points but I can only find a couple and they seem to be ok. Does anyone have any idea what is going on??? why won't the b**ch start???

Yeah I have similar problesm when changing to the BBM manifold. To check the injectors I pulled them out of the head and had them firing above the rocker cover, it sure looked pretty. The ford manual lists a whole raft of things to go through if the motor cranks but doesn't fire.

I is getting annoying, I want my car back!

I wish you were in Brisbane. I have no way of getting it up to you as it won't start. And it would cost me a fortune to get it towed up there. Thanks for the offer. I am thinking now that it is the dizzy module. i rang the wreckers and they quoted me 85dollars for a second hand dizzy with the module. I just need to be sure thats what it is. It seems to be getting spark but no injector pulse. Using a test lamp, both terminals of an injector lead have positive voltage when the igition is on. When you crank the motor over the lamp should pulse on and off but it just stays on. The manual states that if this happens then using the testlamp on terminal 56, which is where it gets it injector signal from, the lamp should flash under cranking conditions but the lamp doesn't come on at all??? From what I understand the computer uses the dizzy module to determine when to send a pulse. I am lost..

I once had the same prob with my ED, I found out it was the injector / dizzy loom .

$85 sounds a bit high though ...

Quite often problems that seem complicated can be solved very simply.

Have you checked all the fuses?

Connected and reconnected all wiring connectors around the disturbed areas?

Resecured the earth at the ECU in the kick panel.

Is the battery voltage good when cranking? No lower than 10 Volts.

You should check for injector pulse at all injectors to be sure, one side of the injector connector will have power at ignition and the other side will pulse when cranking the engine. (use an led test light if poss or even better a noid light to make it easier to see) If you have fuel in the cylinder then this must be ok.

Try injecting fuel into a vacuum hose (a surgical syringe makes this easy) and seeing if the engine fires, if the spark and timing is ok the engine should run for a few seconds.

I can only assume the vehicle was electronically sound before being pulled apart, in which case it almost has to be a timing issue. Try advancing and retarding the dizzy in different positions while someone cranks the engine to see if it will fire.

Where in Brisbane are you?

Make sure the dizzy isn't 180 degrees out, happens a lot.

Have tried all that has been sugested including putting the dizzy 180 degrees the other way. Nothing has worked. I will try replacing the piece of loom on the inlet side of the engine bay. I am pretty sure it got dammaged when taking the inlet manifold off. I had to man handle the loom a bit to get to all the manifold bolts. Will let you know how I go.
